In Loving Memory of Norma Pamela Bascom

It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Norma Pamela Bascom, who departed this life peacefully on September 9, 2025, just shy of her 80th birthday.  

Born on September 21, 1945, in Georgetown, Guyana, to Ismay Romeo and M. Sandiford of Barbados, Norma’s life was shaped by love, determination, and a deep commitment to caring for others. In 1964, driven by a passion for service and learning, she migrated to the United Kingdom to pursue a career in nursing. It was there, during her studies, that she formed a lifelong bond with fellow Guyanese nursing students Waveney and Clareen Thomas. This fateful friendship would lead her to meet the love of her life, Dennis Bascom, the Thomas sisters’ older brother.

Norma and Dennis built a beautiful life together, marrying and welcoming three cherished children: Donna, Derick, and Corey. In 1974, the family made a new home in Canada, where Norma continued her career as an extraordinary nurse, respected by colleagues and beloved by patients for her compassion, skill, and tireless dedication.

Beyond her professional achievements, Norma was a woman of rich interests and warm spirit. She had an enduring love for reading, music, and the arts, and she nurtured these passions throughout her life. Her curiosity, intelligence, and gentle grace left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Norma Pamela Bascom will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. Her legacy of kindness, strength, and quiet brilliance will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.

A memorial service to celebrate Norma’s life will be held at a later date.
