For my dear Marjorie, affectionately known to our circle of friends as Maje,
These last few weeks have been difficult as I grapple with the absence of your voice over the telephone or the smile on your face whenever we met. The tears I cried when I received the news that you were no longer with us is still so fresh, and the sting of your loss remains still.
I met Maje when we were young ladies in Jamaica. Our relationship blossomed quickly since we worked together everyday, as cashiers at the Old Bargain House in Mandeville. We worked together, laughed together, and cried together. When we both immigrated to Canada, our friendship endured the journey, and we remained bonded for more than fifty years. We shared things girlfriends often do, and encouraged each other through some of life’s rough patches, but what I valued most was how honest we could be with each other.
A few days before Maje was hospitalized, she called to tell me she was not feeling well. When I asked how I could help, she requested that I bring her fresh strawberries. I could not have imagined that would be the last time I saw my friend, that this day would be our last goodbye. If I had the opportunity to share my thoughts and feelings with you now, I would tell you what I regret most in this moment, is how Covid-19 stole my chance to visit you in the hospital. How I would have wanted to sit by your bedside to comfort and pray with you.
My dear friend Maje, I miss you. I will forever honour our years of friendship, and hold tight the memories we created.
To Marjorie’s family, please accept sincere condolences from my family, and know that our prayers will be with you during the sad time. To Marjorie’s children specifically, know that your mother was loved and respected by many and her life has left a wonderful impact on those who were privileged to know her.
Thank you for allowing me to pay a final tribute to my longest, dearest friend, Maje!
Sincerely,
Sonia Grange

With heartfelt sympathy on the passing of your mother, friend, sister, grandmother, and sister in christ, Marjorie Francella Holness.
Her dedication to her family and the church was admirable. She was a thoughtful, gentle, and loving sister that was always willing to help and serve the Lord. When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure. The church family will cherish and treasure all of our memories of Sis.Marjorie. Her smile always lit up the room, she will be missed dearly. The church holds her family close in our hearts. Please accept our deepest condolences and we pray that the Lord will bring comfort and peace during these times. As you read this, know that God loves you and can restore your spirits, give you peace and strengthen you. His compassion, they fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23). The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him and I am helped. (Psalm 28:7) May the Lord wrap his arms around the entire family and friends of Sis. Marjorie. We love you all.
