My sincere condolences to the Family of one of my Forever Friends, especially Shawn and his family. I will miss her for many reasons. Met herback in early 70s when we worked together in Jamaica. We kept communication open from then to Winnipeg until a he landed herself in Toronto on a job transfer. I moved from Toronto but communication was the same.. Words are not enough to say, but the chatter, laughter and all were good and have now becomes memories of her. The phone calls, the chatter, talking about the lovely Cactuses in her garden, that huge Rose bush to the side. In 2020 my heart got so weak when she told me of her diagnosis. I was not able to travel to Toronto.... COVID set in but we talked at least twice per week when she was tired after treatment. Well God called her home and she is resting on Perfect Peace. Shawn, Adaoma and everyone else BE ENCOURAGED. Death hurts but it's a road we must travel on God's timing. Always remember the final stage of Death is Acceptance. Sleep.on my Friend, Rest in God's Heavenly Peace. Love you dearly.

My first meeting with Myrtella was in a time of difficulty for the Canadian Diabetes Association grants committee. I had just taken over as chair of the committee and she had just begun at the CDA. The meeting to assess the applications was approaching and we were confronted with much of the reviewing not being done. She was immediately plunged into this crisis. Not to be defeated, she began working the phone, got reviewers and reviews, resulting in a successful grant disbursement. This was the pattern for the rest of her career at the CDA / Diabetes Canada. Absolutely trustworthy, competent, supportive and yes, cheerful and smiling throughout. Her tenure at the CDA, and indeed her life, were characterized by integrity, courage and persistence in the face of sometimes great adversity. And finally… the lady was so chic! She will be sorely missed as an associate and a friend. My sincerest condolences to the family.

Condolences to Myrtie’s family. I remember the early days in Winnipeg when we used to chum around. Through moving around, we lost touch, but thanks to social media we were able to connect in the last few years. Myrtie likes gardening, and we were able to share our flowers and plants.
