I am so saddened to hear of my uncles passing, and to have missed this service as I was unware of the date. I was lucky enough to be able to speak to him a few weeks ago, and will forever remember his kindness, his cooking and his warm hugs. We were blessed to have you in this world Uncle Danny. To my niece Makeda, adoptive daughter Monica and all the Dawkins siblings and family members From Uncle Al and Aunt Lene Lene and I drove from North Preston, Nova Scotia to Toronto, Ontario for the wedding of Lene's sister, Laverne and Roy. I believe that may have been our first time to meet Roy. I had the honour of being the Master of ceremony for the wedding .Lene and I visited the Dawkins several times in the years thereafter. I remember Roy for his backyard garden, but especially for his delicious jerk dishes. On one visit he cooked up some jerk chicken just for us. When Roy visited Nova Scotia, the historian that I am, I gave him my classic grand tour of "Up Home", North Preston. The tour included the Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia in our sister black community of Cherry Crook, Nova Scotia. Whenever Roy was at our home, he would prop himself into out comfortable big arm chair. He would nestle himself into it with a warm smile of satisfaction. He said it was his favorite chair in our home. From then on, I called that chair, "Roy's chair". The last time I saw Roy was when Monica and George were married. Roy and I had the honour of being the fathers to give away the bride; she flanked with Roy on one arm and I on the other walking down the aisle. Lene and I are going to miss Roy's pleasant presence among us. Lene and I and our family extend our deepest condolences to Makeda and Monica and the entire extended Dawkins family. We pray that God will comfort you and carry you through the next chapter of your lives with your loving Livingston as a precocious memory to cherish.
