The paths of Ron and myself first crossed at the College Of Arts Science and Technology (Utech) in Jamaica, where we were both students in the Faculty of Engineering. We separated for a while, he to the St. Augustine Campus of the University of the West Indies and I to The Hatfield Polytechnic (University Of Hertfordshire) in England. We met again after graduation, when we both worked at the Old Harbour Bay Power Generating Station.
Our lives became further intertwined when I was a guest at his wedding and there I met Yvonne and Ron’s extended family. I remember how happy he was when his son was born and later his daughter.
I migrated to Canada shortly after Ron. Our paths crossed again when one day Ron called and said “Man there is an opening at my place in Windsor”. Then, I had no idea where Windsor was...at that time the only Windsor I knew was the one in England. Thanks to Ron my friend and later my bestman, Windsor has been and still is my home.
Most evenings after work, we spent hours “reasoning”, as my Jamaican Rasta friends would say. Ron was very political, socially conscious, very religious. Trevor was also very political, socially conscious and very religious but our views were invariably diametrically opposite. Despite this ‘handicap’ our friendship remained as solid as could be. I will miss my friend for his kindness, his generosity and wisdom. May his soul rest in peace.

Ronald "Call me Hombre" Bernard. We met in college - CAST, and UWI and became friends for life. Although separated by career and migration, whenever his name came up in conversations the theme was always: respect; brilliance; his religious faith.
We will miss you "Hombre", the memories will last forever.
My sincere condolences to the Bernard Family, may his soul rest in peace.

I met Ronald many years ago and came to know him as one of the statesmen of the faith. He was pleasant, knowledgeable, quiet yet witty, controlled yet expressive about things important to him. He was a gentleman and Yvonne complemented him well. We will miss his wisdom but thankful he is resting in the presence of the Lord. May his family continue to experience peace and joy in the legacy he left behind. Condolences from Vida and family

Ronald was Man I admired. I admired the way he lived his life. He was man that put his family first. He was quiet, humble, giving and kind. Under all the quietness, he was full of Wisdom. You would discover his wisdom when you get into a deep conversation with him, especially on a debatable topic, he was great debater. I enjoyed conversing with him.
Ronald has left a great impression on me and I am sure on many others, with all his great qualities and the way he lived his life.
My Condolences , to Yvonne and his Children and Grandchildren.
Ronald we Miss you. Rest IN Peace my friend

On behalf of myself, my children & the rest of the Cole's family I would like to send sincere condolences to my cousin Yvonne & her family on the passing of a dear husband and father. It's a very sad occasion as no one can really get accustomed to death .May Jehovah God continues to give you strength beyond what is normal to cope with your loss. Mr Bernard iwas a man of great humor and integrity always giving good advice to those with whom he interacted. It's so sad to see him go, but I implore the grieving family & relatives please stay strong & may Jehovah remember him in the resurrection.

Ronald (affectionately called “Hombre” by his college buddies) was a gentleman in every sense of the word. He was kind, loyal and respectful to all and in turn held in the highest esteem by his vast number of colleagues.
I have known Ronald since Elementary school through High school, College and University. Later we worked for the same company in his beloved Jamaica. In all this time of living, studying, playing games (particularly scrabble) I have observed his strength and steadfastness to whatever he put his mind. He was a gifted scholar, who grasped the most difficult concepts easily and was therefore a valued asset in our study groups.
Ronald was true to his religious faith so it was important for him to honor the Sabbath. As friends we admired him for this level of commitment. Ronald was a brother to me in every sense of the word. He will be greatly missed but the numerous memories of camaraderie I will hold dear.

To Aunty Yvonne, Sheldon and Saran, my heartfelt condolences to you all.
I remember meeting Uncle Ronald for the first time when I was 10, on my first visit to Jamaica. Though it was the first time I met him, it was like I knew him all my life: his big smile and warm heart will be a memory I will carry with me always.
Uncle Ronald you'll live in my heart always. Rest in loving peace.

Ronald my life partner,I will miss your warm smile your calm demeanor, the long drives to no particular destination and the conversations along the way. Most of all I will miss the way you always treated me as your prize possession and allowed me to be myself.Even in your final days you remained true to character
You were a caring husband and a loving father who could act as silly as a two year old. I am heartbroken still I thank God for the years and the fond memories. We laugh, prayed and made decisions together and were best friends.I see you in our children and am grateful for them. May you rest in peace my love .

My condolences to the family and friends of Mr Ronald Bernard. I pray that the good Lord gives you peace during this difficult time.
It's difficult finding the right words to capture everything special about this man of God Mr Ronald Bernard.
Ronald has a beautiful character both inside and outside. He was an excellent listener with a great personality, always positive and strong. Because of his profound wisdom conversations with him would capture your attention and last for hours.
Ronald was a caring husband and a wonderful father. Ronald and Yvonne were together ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ for over fifty years and it's amazing how they still behave like two love birds. I'm immensely proud of the life they both live.
I admired Yvonne who became an extreme pillow of strength to her husband through his Alzheimer's journey.
Ronald is now resting in the arms of his Saviour Jesus Christ, gone but not forgotten, he will always be in our hearts.
Blessings

I grew up around Father because his sister Blossom, being my mother's best friend, was my caregiver while my mother practiced hairdressing in the 1960s. Everyone in the Bernard home , the SDA Church and the community of OHB called him Father and so did I. His wife Yvonne became an aunt to me as well. I always admired his gentle and gentile manner towards her.
Father was a gentleman who was very polished and proper in speech, dress and decorum. At church he was revered and feared by us younger ones. I remember when the family moved to Canada and their visits back to Jamaica with Sheldon who was no longer the baby I played with. Later Saron came and of course she didn't know me as a family member but Father's mother Sis. Bernard used to bring back goodies from Father, Yvonne and Saran for my little sister who was disabled.
Later, Father became Marse Ronald- a figure that seemed aloof only because of his intellectualism which I could not match. When I went on to tertiary education, Uncle Ronald was so proud of me and I was so proud that I could now debate with him. His mind was so sharp. He was witty. He had a well thought-out opinion on everything. And his opinions made so much sense you felt like a an intellectual dwarf in his presence. His smile as he mesmerized you was something else. But he would always assure me by saying "Ok Kiddo". I thought that that was his name for me. Later I realized he called everyone Kiddo including Auntie Blossom's children Durrant, Ghieldon and Shenia who influenced me to call him Uncle Ronald.
During his battle with the enemy of brains, we used to engage in conversations that belied his diagnosis. As Ghieldon describes him, "he was a walking encyclopedia".
By the time he became Ronald for me, we had lost Father, Marse Bernard and Uncle Ronald. Ronald is the name I last ventured to call him but never to his face because of the respect I had for him.
Sleep on my uncle. Soon the Lord will call you so we can talk again.

Rest in Eternal Peace my Brother in Law,,,..You were a part of our Family for 50 years, your passing remains one of the saddest days I have experienced. We lost our Bonus Brother, my fondest memories including the trip to the Airport (in your Capri)1974 to seeing you dance to your favorite Buju songs, your hearty laughs when you try to tell a joke.. Your intelligence, your humor, your patience, your smile/laughter, your love for family and your presence will be missed. GONE TOO SOON!!!
