Obituary of Rupert Edward Lindo

Rupert “Rupee” Lindo was called home by the Lord the morning of June 17th, 2024. His final moments were spent in the presence of family who gathered to pray at his bedside, express their love and gratitude, then ultimately, to say goodbye.

Born in May Pen, Jamaica on November 16th 1941 as the eldest son to Robert and Prudence, Rupert was known in his early years for his interest in bird hunting and fishing, and would commonly return home with a catch for the family after a successful outing with his brothers. A true family man and deadly defender of his loved ones, Rupert’s fearless attitude and protector nature led to regular recruitment efforts by the local police to join their force. Rupert instead left Jamaica for England at the age of 18 alongside his older cousin and best friend Vivi Lindo, where he would begin honing his craft as a Welder.

A decade later Rupert would leave England for Canada where he secured a welding position as a top welder at Massey Ferguson, the largest manufacturer of farm equipment in the western world at the time. Shortly after moving to Canada, he would meet the love of his life, Barbara, with whom he immediately developed a passionate romance. Rupert and Barb shared an inseparable loving bond, which gave life to 49 fulfilling years of marriage, one daughter, one son, and four grandchildren to carry on his legacy, all of whom embody his most endearing traits of devotion, loyalty, wisdom, generosity, humour, and inner strength.

Known in his earlier years for his passion for horse racing and his ability to pick winners at the track, in his later years for his devotion to God, to the church, and to his church brothers and sisters, and for his love of music, his fondness of Western movies, his enthusiasm for sports, and his passion for dominoes throughout his lifespan, Rupert is best remembered as a man of many interests and abilities, who could excel at anything in which he invested his time and effort. He loved his loved ones deeply and nothing made him happier than being in their loving presence.
