Obituary of Mama Iris Beckford

Iris May Beckford, affectionately known as Mama Iris, Mama, Miss Solomon, was born in Bowens Clarendon the first of 3 Children.  She was a mother in all of its true meaning, a grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and a dear friend to many.  Her life was a living testament of respect, love and care for all, honesty, good laughter, compassion to all with a sense of understanding without being judgmental.

Mama Iris lived in Jamaica for the first 51 years of her life, migrated to Canada in 1978 with her youngest child, worked in the hospitality industry and never forgot her remaining children in Jamaica, and shortly after Iris United her children with her in Canada.  Mama Iris continued to teach her children valued life lessons and often reminded us of why we are here “ to get an education, become self-sufficient, love each other if you fall pick yourself up and start over, the race is not for the swift but those who make it to the finish line”. 

Mama Iris is survived by her loving 9 children, 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 sister, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a huge number of dear friends near and far.  She will be missed by all and remembered by everyone she interacted with and whose lives she has touched.

“Let not your hearth be troubled, ye believe in God believe also in me.  In my Father’s house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you.  And If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to myself, that where I am, there he shall be also”.  John 14:  1 - 3.

The children and extended family members of the late Iris May Beckford would like to acknowledge, with deep appreciation, the many expressions of love and kindness shown by all.  Your thoughtful reflections of our loved one will always be cherished.

PANDEMIC INSTRUCTIONS:

Please be advised there is a 10 ppl maximum capacity permitted in the funeral home (includes children and babies) and a 10 person maximum at the cemetery.  SStaff will be continuously monitoring capacity numbers. Once we have reached capacity, guests will be asked to remain outside as there is NO gathering in the funeral centre at any time.

MANDATORY:  Face masks must be worn inside of the funeral centre at all times.
